Rotary Club of Gettysburg honored one its long-time members,  PDG Anna-Mae Kobbe, Phd at its luncheon meeting on July 20th for her many years of outstanding service to Rotary International, District 7390 and the Gettysburg club.  Anna-Mae announced last month that she was stepping down as Chair of the club Philanthropy Committee after several years as its Chair.  

Anna-Mae was inducted into the Rotary Club of College Park, Maryland in 2000, served as its President from 2008-09, and then served as Governor of RotaryDistrict 7620 (Central Maryland and Washington, DC) from 2016-2017.   When she and her husband, Doug Newell moved to  Adams County in 2019, they transferred their memberships to the Rotary Club of Gettysburg.  As club Philanthropy Committee Chair, she was responsible for the club's Community Grant Program.  She also worked closely with Adams County Community Foundation on scholarships.  Anna-Mae also served District 7390 as Foundation Chair from 2021 to 2024 and more recently, as District Peace Fellows Chair.   She is  a Paul Harris Fellow, Paul Harris Society member, District PolioPlus Society member, and a Level III Rotary Foundation Major Donor.  

Outside of Rotary, Dr. Kobbe’s career spanned 30+ years with USDA’s Land-Grant University System including employment with the University of Missouri Extension Service, the University of Tennessee Extension Service, and United States Department of Agriculture.  At the time of her retirement, Dr. Kobbe was Director of the Division of Family Consumer Sciences and Nutrition at the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service of USDA (now the National Institute of Food and Agriculture).  Following retirement, she was a Visiting Professor at the University of Kentucky’s School of Human Environmental Sciences for two years where she led faculty and staff through a strategic planning process.  

She is a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University (B.S. Degree in Secondary Education), the University of Missouri-Columbia (M.S. Degree), and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville (Ph.D. in Human Ecology-Family Studies with a minor in Higher Education Administration & Supervision).  Anna-Mae has received numerous awards for her professional work, leadership, and community service.

Fortunately for Rotary, Anna-Mae is not leaving the club.  Her wide and deep subject matter expertise will continue to be relied upon by club leadership moving forward.  We are proud to know you Anna-Mae.

Creating lasting impact often begins with lending a helping hand.

As part of its ongoing partnership with Servants, members of the Rotary Club of York-North recently spent a day repairing damaged drywall for a New Cumberland family in need.

The project involved replacing sections of drywall followed by taping, mudding, and sanding the repaired areas. The damage had occurred years earlier when the family's autistic son struggled with emotional outbursts as a young child. While those difficult days are now behind them, the visible reminders remained throughout the home until Rotary volunteers stepped in to help.

Working alongside Servants, Inc., York North Rotarians transformed damaged walls into smooth, paint-ready surfaces, giving the family renewed pride in their home and one less burden to carry.

This project reflects Rotary's 2026-2027 theme, Create Lasting Impact, by providing practical assistance while demonstrating compassion and care for neighbors facing challenges. Through partnerships like Servants, York North Rotarians continue to strengthen our community one service project at a time.
