The time has come to begin the nominating process for our District Governor 2020-21. In this way we will continue our three-year projection for District 7390’s leadership.
I encourage all D7390 Clubs to survey your membership and suggest a qualified candidate for the District Governor Nominee 2020-21. Suggestions must be made in the form of a resolution adopted at a regular Club meeting and certified by the Club Secretary. You may suggest a Rotarian from another Club so long as you first obtain the concurrence of the Club where the proposed candidate is a member.
Every club has an outstanding leader who could be a potential District Governor. Look around and ask yourself, who is that person in my club? It is the person who is a good leader, interested, involved, gives financially to Rotary and The Rotary Foundation and is helpful to other members. Ask that person about his or her interest in serving as District Governor. We all need to give encouragement and “plant the seed” for others to move forward.
When submitting a candidate for 2020-21 Governor, the following must be submitted: the Club resolution and the Governor Nominee Data Form (DG App 2020-21).
In March 1968, a handful of students met at a small university in Charlotte, North Carolina, to charter the first Rotaract club in the world. Today there are 10,563 clubs with 242,949 members in 177 nations. This simple idea has impacted our world and is truly a Rotary success.
RI President Ian Riseley is making the celebration of Rotaract’s 50th Anniversary a significant focus, and we are helping him by building a monument to celebrate, at the birthplace of Rotaract. UNC Charlotte has now grown into a Doctoral/Research Intensive Institution, with a diverse student population from around the world totaling over 29,000. The 35-foot diameter, three-dimensional Rotary Wheel monument will be the focal point of a central plaza…impacting students and faculty daily. Incoming RI President Barry Rassin and other Rotary dignitaries will help celebrate the Dedication Ceremony, along with Rotaractors from around the world, who will be attending the Rotaract Turns 50 Conference June 1-3, 2018. In fact, we expect The Rotarian magazine will cover the Dedication Ceremony, and RI President Ian Riseley may be highlighting The Rotaract Monument at the International Convention in Toronto a few weeks later.

The most powerful force in the promotion of international understanding and peace is exposure to different cultures. The world becomes a smaller, friendlier place when we learn that all people — regardless of nationality — desire the same basic things: a safe, comfortable environment that allows for a rich and satisfying life for our children and ourselves. Youth Exchange provides thousands of young people with the opportunity to meet people from other lands and to experience their cultures. This plants the seeds for a lifetime of international understanding.
The deadline to complete a STEP (Short-term) application has been extended to Monday, January 15, 2018.
Summer 2018 STEP applications are due to the District office by January 15, 2018. Interviews for STEP students will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the PA United Church Center (900 S. Arlington Ave, Harrisburg).
Scholarships For International Study from Area Rotary Clubs
Applications for the 2018-19 Rotary Foundation Global Scholarships are now available from Rotary Clubs in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York Counties and from the Rotary District 7390 District office headquartered in York.
Rotary Global Scholars must study abroad in one of the six Areas of Focus of The Rotary Foundation:
1. Peace and Conflict Prevention/Resolution
2. Disease Prevention and Treatment
3. Water and Sanitation
4. Maternal and Child Health
5. Basic Education and Literacy
6. Economic and Community Development
The scholarships, which are designed to further international understanding and goodwill, provide for study abroad in more than 200 countries and geographic areas where Rotary Clubs are located. The Rotary District 7390 Scholarship Committee will award one scholarships for 2018-19.
Rotary Global Scholarships are generally for one academic year abroad and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, some educational supplies, and language training (if necessary), up to a maximum award of $30,000 or its equivalent. The Rotary Foundation Global Scholarship program is the world’s largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Focused on humanitarian service, personal diplomacy, and academic excellence, the program has sponsored more than 40,000 Rotary Scholars abroad since it began in 1947.
