Harrisburg Lancaster York
Tennis Challenge

The Carlisle Rotary Club (Castles/Cunningham) won the District Tennis Challenge by defeating the Lancaster Northeast Club (Spadea/Winters) 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. The doubles teams played the match on 24 September at the Allenberry courts. After the match a very enjoyable and tasty trophy-presentation dinner took place at Allenberry.

Rainy weather delayed the event by a week. As a result, three teams (York, Lancaster, and one of the two Carlisle teams) could not play. This left Carlisle and Lancaster Northeast to fight it out for the Paul Harris Championship Cup.

Next year's event will most likely be held at the more centrally located West Shore Country Club (WSCC) in the last half of September. Club Presidents Elect should determine if their club can field a team to compete in next year's event.

Championship trophies are awarded after the dinner including the Paul Harris Tennis Challenge Trophy going to the winning team's club..

A team, ideally, should be two Rotarians; however, a member who is cultivating a prospective Rotarian for their Club may have that person as their playing partner. In all cases, one member of the team must be a Rotarian. A Club may sponsor multiple doubles teams. A doubles team may be men, women or mixed, and all are welcomed
as this event is a fellowship event.

The Tennis Challenge is a round robin doubles format with each team playing four, one set matches.

The two teams with the best round robin record will play for the Championship Trophy.

This is a combination of FUN, FELLOWSHIP, AND FUNDRAISING in that order.
