When will the Group Study Exchange be held?
The team will arrive in Scotland on August 25, 2012 and return to the USA on September 22, 2012.
The Group Study Exchange will occur in Rotary District 1010 Scotland North. The district provides many unique qualities: The main towns in Northern Scotland are Aberdeen on the East coast, and Inverness on the Moray Firth. Aberdeen is known as the "Granite City", because of its imposing buildings constructed from the grey stone. Inverness is said to be the capital of the Highlands. It is an attractive city with a castle perched above the River Ness. There are strong links with the Royal Family in Northern Scotland with Glamis Castle and Balmoral Castle. The Islands off Northern Scotland have a very high density of standing stones and pre-historic settlements. There is an attractive touring route around Northern Scotland encompassing the Scotch Whisky distilleries, mostly concentrated on Speyside. District 1010 also includes the ‘’home of golf’’, St Andrews.
Why participate in a Group Study Exchange?
|
A Group Study Exchange offers the most unique and rewarding skill-building opportunity and personal growth experience available to young professionals as humanity steps forward to face the challenges of the 21st century. Individuals who participate will return home, not only with new perspectives and an enlarged vision, but also with valuable fresh ideas and an understanding of a nation’s culture, commerce and government.
During the rigorous travel in Scotland, team members will experience spectacular and unique cultural tours, along with individualized vocational visits. Vocational visits include opportunities to observe, to share your thoughts, and to learn new best practices with peer professionals from the visited country. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity.
The Rotary Foundation and local Rotary clubs cover the costs of transportation, lodging with local Rotarian host families, meals, and group travel. Each team member must have a valid US passport and is responsible for their individual personal and incidental costs. Team members are required to participate in orientation sessions prior to their departure and will be expected to speak about their experience to various groups after returning.
